About Riffle
Riffle is a working river ledger — a single place where the hatch calendar, the fly box and the access notes for a river sit on the same page, so you can plan a trip without opening six browser tabs.
What is on the site
Every river in the ledger carries the same eight blocks: a hatch chart with month, insect, stage, hook size, time of day and an intensity rating; a matched fly table with the sizes and the technique each pattern is fished with; licence and season rules; access points; flow notes; and three technique notes specific to that water. The hatch charts are drawn as real SVG plates, one for the fly and one for the insect, generated from explicit parameters — body length, wing tilt, tail fibres and hook gap — so a plate is a diagram rather than decoration.
Who writes it
Riffle is written and maintained by a small group of fly anglers who fish these rivers and keep notes. We are not a booking agent, we do not sell rods on any of the water we describe, and no river pays to be in the ledger. Where a river is privately leased — and many of the best ones are — we say so plainly and point you at the club, lodge or association that sells the permit, rather than pretending there is public access that does not exist.
How the ledger grows
The site is published on a drip: a new river guide goes up every few days rather than all at once, and the twelve-month hatch calendar on the home page fills in as guides go live. If you are looking for a river that is not here yet, it is probably scheduled — the index shows what has been published to date.
Corrections
Fishery rules change faster than anything else on this site: seasons move, quotas tighten, beats change hands. If you find something here that is out of date, tell us at [email protected] and we will fix it. Always confirm the current regulations with the issuing authority before you travel — this site is a planning aid, not a legal document.
